The knowledge, or science, of life
Ayurveda literally means ‘the knowledge, or science, of life.’ Ayurveda (pronounced aah-yure-vay-da) offers insight into the wisdom of life and longevity and is thought to be the oldest existing body of knowledge on health and healing. Ayurveda is often called the ‘mother of healing’ because it contains the roots of all other healing philosophies.
The science of Ayurveda originated in India 5,000 years ago. For much of its history Ayurveda knowledge was passed down through oral tradition. Later, it was recorded in the ancient classical texts known as “The Vedas,” to convey medical knowledge to physicians as well as to teach the people how to live in harmony with the natural world around them.
Ayurveda explains that when the body is out of balance due to certain lifestyle, environmental and dietary factors, it becomes susceptible to disease. Ayurveda therefore places emphasis on prevention and alleviation of disease through diet and lifestyle requirements.
Ayurveda is unique in that it offers a complete way of life which supports the individual’s health at all levels: the body, mind, spirit, and consciousness.
One of the main goals of Ayurveda is to teach people how they can take charge of their life and health to alleviate and prevent symptoms.
Dr. Grasser patients who choose Ayurveda as their pathway to wellness benefit from an individually prescribed natural approach to their food and life as well as the use of herbs to restore and maintain constitutional balance. When the doctor and you both understand your unique constitution and imbalances, together you can customize your approach to diet, lifestyle, exercise, and relationships to get the most out of your health. This approach is not possible under the limitations of conventional medicine where treatments are standardized and algorithmic for all patients.
